The Save Our Stepney Task Force (SOS), will host the third annual Blazin’ Pumpkins illumination on Friday, October 23 through Saturday, October 31st, 2019 on the Stepney Green.
On the 26 and 28t7thh, attendees will be treated to hot cider, apples, and. There will be opportunities to take pictures with the “Great Skeleton”, so come dressed in a favorite Halloween costume.
Carved pumpkins of all sizes and expressions will create a blazin’ ring of illumination around the gazebo on the Stepney Green, located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 59 in Monroe, CT. The Blazing pumpkins will be illuminated beginning Friday, October 23rd and be extinguished after Halloween. Members of the Save Our Stepney Task Force will build the core illumination and members of the community are invited to join in by bringing a carved pumpkin to insure a glowing fun time. Carved pumpkins may be dropped off at 51 Hattertown Road or to the Green on Thursday, October 22.
The Stepney Green has a long history dating back to the early 1700s when it was used for militia drills. In 1817 it was officially purchased for $140 to serve as a place of parade for the Birdsey’s Plain Rifle Company. Today, the green serves as a meeting place for, community picnics, holiday tree lightings and other community events.
The event is free with parking provided behind the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.
